RESERVED for Shirley - This beautiful little painting of the lake in Annecy, France depicts the closing of a warm summer's day over the calm waters of the lake and a small boathouse and landing in gray-blues and streaks of coral red. In the far distance, the peaked silhouettes of buildings and churches can just be made out through the late evening haze. Signed 'E.Béchard' and dated August 1914, a faded inscription in ink on the back reads in part in French "Sunset over Annecy, August 1914". Painted on wood.
Dimensions: approx. 23.5 cm x 33 cm / 9.25 in x 13 in
These pieces wear their history like all vintage pieces which only adds to their story. This painting is in very good condition with only slight bowing of the wood board towards the back and some patina from age but not major flaws to the paint. The right side of the painting has a chip in the wood (see 3rd photo) that appears to be original to the board as there is paint like that of the image inside the chip.
